Artist

I am Maria “Sofi” Guerra, a self-taught artist, born and raised in the suburbs of the Houston, TX area. I have been drawing since I was about three years old and have loved drawing ever since I could hold a crayon. Art has always and will always be instilled in me and I now feel its time for me to share my talent of drawing with others, besides my family and friends. Graduating from LCISD in 2001, I had the most wonderful art teacher who always tried to make me see beyond what was already in the photograph. Me and my art teacher did bump heads along the way when it came down to looking beyond realism and letting in some contemporary creativity. I just love drawing what is there and knowing that what I lay down on paper is something very special and unique.

I am now 27 years of age and work for a local law enforcement agency as a 911 Dispatcher, and enjoy my job. In between my time off, I try to sketch and draw as much as I can without life getting in the way too much. I also love spending time with my family, especially my nieces and nephew when I get the chance. There was also a time I jumped into digital designing and fell in love with Adobe Photoshop, for me its one of the best digital designing and photography editing program to exist! I do still play around with Photoshop and will create a website or two when I am in the mood. I was however debating on offering digital web designs on this site as well, but I haven’t quite made a concrete decision on that yet. For now, I am sticking with offering drawings.

I also love photography and will include a gallery of my photographs as well. As you may tell by looking at my site you will see that I favor drawing children rather than adults, for me its easier to draw babies and kids. I will however draw adults when requested to do so or if I feel I need to exercise in that area with adult faces and features. I also have painted a couple of wall murals including a Disney theme for a nursery, a Desert theme on 4 10x12 walls and a really neat Comic theme. I will post photos of the rooms also.

There are many artists that I do admire including Ann Kullberg, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Leonardo Da Vinci, Monet, and Mary Cassatt. Looking at the work of other artists inspires me to further my talent by studying the work of other pieces of art on my own. The lucky ones who do own my piece of work are usually in awe when they receive the finished drawing. Even though its tough for me to let go of a drawing, I know future owners and current owners will appreciate my work and display their loved ones in their homes on a special wall somewhere.
